Engineers Trust

The Engineers Trust is the Charitable Trust Fund of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. It is a registered charity, funded by contributions from the members of the Company. At the end of 2016, the fund was worth £1.66 million, with combined income from regular giving and investments of £95,000, plus growth in the fund from generous legacies. During 2016, the fund distributed £77,000 in grants, medals and prizes.

The awards funded by the Engineers Trust are currently:

  • The Hawley Award for engineering innovation
  • The Baroness Platt of Writtle Award for incorporated engineers
  • The Sir Peter Gadsden Australia Award for exchange between Britain and Australia of engineers undergoing postgraduate studies
  • The Royal Academy of Engineering Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year
  • The Leete Premium Award for PhD research in manufacturing
  • The Cadzow Smith Award to encourage business enterprise in young engineers
  • The Mercia Award for a postgraduate paper describing engineering techniques for medical treatment
  • The Water Engineering Award for the best paper at the International Water Association conference
  • The Stephenson Award for encouraging young people to study engineering
  • The Services Undergraduate Award
  • The Services Postgraduate Award
  • The Royal Navy Operational Engineering Award
  • The Royal Engineers Operational Engineering Award
  • The Royal Signals Operational Award
  • The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Operational Engineering Award
  • The Royal Air Force Operational Award
  • The Defence Engineering Equipment and Support Award

The Trust supports a number of Arkwright Scholarships for sixth from students at schools in Greater London. Also, the Trust now sponsors five Horizon Awards jointly with The IET, and sponsors five Young Engineer of  the Year Awards with the Royal Academy of Engineering.  These awards, along with the prestigious MacRobert Award, are intended to offer inspiration to aspiring young engineers.
